About the Design:

This commission was donated to a charity auction, and a good friend of mine snatched it up. She is a computer programmer and developer and we both wanted to bring that into the design somehow. When research turned up that one of the meanings for her last name–Grabert–was gravedigger, inspiration struck. The billets (little rectangles) that cover the field are not only a allusion to her family name, but also resemble the punch cards used to store data in the early days of computers. The two needles that top the chevron are a nod to her heavy interest in various artistic and craft endeavors. The Athenian Owl and book it’s holding are symbols of her continuing pursuit of knowledge and learning.
